Fasting, Ketosis and Autophagy

Learn about the long-term benefits for your body.

Fasting
Is when the feeding stops for a certain amount of time. An effect of fasting is that the body starts to run out of glucose in the blood and glycogen stored in the liver, which causes a metabolic switch: the liver starts converting fats into ketone bodies for the muscles and brain to use as fuel, a process called ketosis.

Tip: After 12h the growth hormone increases which helps to maintain, build and repair tissue which is essential for anti-aging.

Ketosis
Is a normal process that happens when your body doesn't have enough carbs to burn for energy. Instead, it burns stored fat and makes substances called ketones, which it can use for fuel.

Tip: This accelerates the burn of stored fat.

Autophagy
Is the body's way of cleaning out damaged cells, in order to regenerate newer, healthier cells. “Auto” means self and “phagy” means eat. So, the literal meaning of autophagy is “self-eating.”

Tip: Starts after 18h of fasting. The longer the time the higher the benefits. It increases the stem cell production, reduces inflammation, repairs mitochondria, prevents cancer, slows aging, repairs brain, reduces stress, fat loss etc. Autophagy is also triggered by regular exercise when it involves both resistance training and aerobic activity.
